Casa Bubel

Project type

Residential

Date

2008

Location

Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This residential project is specifically designed for a mother and her twin boy and girl, creating a deliberate hierarchy of vertical space. The three-part volumetric design boldly utilizes color and abstraction to establish a dynamic balance of form. The first floor features a striking curve that purposefully guides residents around the structure, enclosing an open space with floor-to-ceiling glass and an open glass staircase spanning three floors. The second floor includes the mother's bedroom, a make-up/changing room, and a bathroom. The children's third-floor bedrooms are linear, extending like a cantilever to define the lap pool below. In addition to their bedrooms, the children have dedicated spaces for school work and an outdoor rooftop play area with a garden. At the rear of the property, there is a carport and changing area for the pool, as well as an open gourmet area for barbecues.
