Soares Residence

The design for this residence in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, attempts to create an open floorplan that seamlessly flows from the interior to the exterior. Gardens are strategically placed throughout this site, while some areas feature extensive fenestration to enhance the connection between outdoor space and interior living areas. The first floor boasts an open living space that flows naturally into a kitchen nook and entryway, complemented by a free-standing staircase, facilitating a cohesive layout. On the second floor, the design features two bedrooms alongside a master bedroom, all organized around a central corridor. Moreover, the gridded system extends outward to create negative spaces for removable awnings, providing essential shading. Leveraging low-cost materials and incorporating repetition in hardware, doors, windows, and structural elements, this residence exemplifies a budget-conscious design without compromising quality. The final aesthetic boldly asserts that exceptional architecture is attainable for all.
