Cadeira Dobrável

Project type

Furniture

Date

2004/2024

Location

Rio de Janeiro / United States

The "Cadeira Dobrável" was conceived during my time in Rio de Janeiro while collaborating with Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. The folding chair, crafted from Jacaranda, a Brazilian noble hardwood, gives both chair shells a mirrored grain pattern. The legs are forged stainless steel plates arranged in a geometric pattern, highlighting the chair's angles. Two identically sized cushions, shaped triangularly and made from top-grain leather, fit seamlessly within the wooden shells. A discreetly placed piano hinge, hidden between the shells, facilitates the folding. The idea for this chair emerged from the increasingly compact lifestyles of modern living. Its foldable design allows apartment owners to reconfigure their living spaces throughout the day.
