The Ironbound section of Newark is a vibrant community predominantly composed of Portuguese, Brazilian, and Spanish immigrants. The property at 11 Darcy Street has been owned by a Portuguese family from the Azores Islands since the early 1970s. An impressive addition has been constructed above the existing garage, effectively enhancing housing options for the community. This garage is built from durable concrete block modules and features a pitched roof. The new addition, designed to mirror the roof structure intentionally, creates a visually dynamic truss that appears to float, supported by robust steel columns. This expanded space boasts one bedroom, a kitchen, and a stylish living area, including a balcony and an external staircase. Moreover, a thoughtfully designed rooftop garden with a flat roof elevates the property, offering breathtaking views of New York City. This rooftop space features planters containing trees with a shallow root structure and lush sod, providing essential insulation while enhancing the overall aesthetic.
